Bladz Music, a promising hip-hop artist from Zimbabwe’s Midlands, recently sat down with Zim Rap City for an exclusive interview. With two new music videos freshly dropped, Bladz is making waves in the local music scene. Here’s what he had to share about his journey, inspirations, and future aspirations.
From Aspiring DJ to Hip-Hop Artist
“I initially wanted to be a DJ, someone like DJ Khaled or DJ Towers,” Bladz recalls. “That was the kind of vibe I needed in my life, so I started collaborating with music artists. Then, I did the ‘Bestie’ freestyle and recorded it. From then on, I became a hip-hop artist.”
Bladz’s transition from DJing to rapping marked the beginning of a new chapter in his life, one where he found his true calling and began to hone his craft.
Inspirations and Creative Process
“My inspiration came from Drexlee on TikTok. He’s an amazing video director, and from him, I learned the skills of editing and directing my own videos. My people love my projects because it’s become a family thing, embraced by my fans and friends alike.”
Bladz’s unique style is deeply rooted in his background and the people around him. “I became someone with my own skill set because of NDINOTAMVA NEMADHUNDA – my family, my brothers. I learned a lot from them – their lifestyle, their ghetto vibe, their language. I was also inspired by The Rock, Dwayne Johnson, and his strong rap style.”
Overcoming Challenges
Like many artists, Bladz faced his share of challenges. “My mom didn’t like the hip-hop thing at first. That was a big challenge, but now she believes in it because I explained everything. Music is not drugs; music is talent.”
Current Projects and Future Goals
Bladz is brimming with excitement about his current and upcoming projects. “I have a lot of projects lined up, and the tunes are fire. It’s your boy Bladz, and I can say that I need more people to collaborate because music is family.”
His ambitions extend beyond personal success. “My aim is to inspire people to be who they want to be and to be proud of themselves. I want everyone to be presentable in whatever they do in life. Wakachena-Nhasi.”
Bladz is also dedicated to nurturing new talent. “I want to help a lot of young stars who wish to become someone someday. That’s my mission – to raise new talents, not just in music but in various fields.”
The Importance of Fan Interaction
“Fan interaction is so important because, without fans, there’s no music. Their support helps us as hip-hop artists to grow the genre. Music only needs your time; it’s like a game. If you keep practicing, you can win. Be patient, because your time will always come. Mwari vanopa munhu wese mukana.”
Final Thoughts
Bladz is grateful for where he is today and is optimistic about the future. “It’s nice for me to be like this, to be here with you. Amen.”
With his grounded approach and clear vision, Bladz Music is set to make a significant impact on the Zimbabwean hip-hop scene. His journey is a testament to the power of persistence, passion, and the support of a community that believes in his talent. Keep an eye on Bladz as he continues to rise and inspire others to follow their dreams.
